7 Healthy Fast Food Alternatives for 2021

Committing to a healthy lifestyle is hard when fast-food drive-thru chains push greasy bacon cheeseburgers and Dorito-shell tacos. That’s why I’d like to share with you 7 healthy fast food alternatives that will make your diet go down much easier this year.

You’re starving. The kids are starving. A cheeseburger and fries would be the easy fix. But you need nutritious food that you can grab fast, whether you’re on the road or just want a quick bite to eat. For us to keep our healthy New Year’s Resolutions, I thought it would be important to share 7 healthy fast food alternatives that will make your entire family smile.

Chipotle Salads

Chipotle Mexican Grill is a restaurant chain that focuses on foods like tacos and burritos, but they also make terrific salads. Maybe that’s because they focus on using only organic, local ingredients with fresh meats from naturally raised animals.

Chik-Fil-A Oatmeal

Chick-fil-A is doing oatmeal right. The chain spent 18 months developing fast-food oatmeal that is slow-cooked.  The oatmeal starts with a blend of steel-cut oats (like those used in Irish oatmeal), rolled oats, flax, buckwheat flour, and whole-wheat flour.

This stuff is the real deal: low-calorie, low-fat, low-carb, and low-salt. Now if they were only open on Sunday.

KFC Grilled Chicken with Healthy Sides

Yes, I know that KFC is known for their deep-fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits drizzled in honey, and mmmm……

No, wait! Hear me out: You can find healthy fast food alternatives at KFC by ordering their grilled chicken strips with healthy sides, such as green beans and corn-on-the-cob. Sometimes you just have to dig deep on the menu.

Jimmy John’s Unwich

This popular chain is known for its fast-and-quick sandwiches. But are you aware they serve an”Unwich”? It’s basically your favorite sandwich in lettuce-wrap form.

This is perfect for someone who is looking for a low carb option or is gluten-free. If you get the Turkey Tom (my personal favorite) on a lettuce wrap, it is 315 calories compared to 554 on the regular bread.

Panera Bread Soup

If you’re trying to eat light, Panera has many healthy soup options that do not have preservatives or artificial ingredients. In fact, Eat This, Not That created a ranking of Panera menu items based on their nutritional value.

Panera has plenty of soups to choose from, but be careful to avoid their creamy chowders and cheese-based soups. What are their healthiest soups? Low-fat vegetarian black bean soup, Garden vegetable, and cream of chicken & wild rice.

Taco Bell’s Crunchy Taco Fresco Style

My little secret: I would eat these tacos even if I wasn’t trying to eat healthily. They’re so delicious! Luckily, these delicious tacos are light on sodium and only 170 calories.

Panda Express Broccoli Beef

When it comes to fast food Asian fare, simple is often healthiest. That’s why I’ve come to enjoy Panda Express’s broccoli and beef meal tossed in a ginger soy sauce. Also, instead of fried rice, I now substitute it with a side of mixed vegetables.
