7 Holiday Yoga Poses to Promote Calm

While the holidays are a time to celebrate, eat delicious food, and spend time with those you love, they can also bring in a little bit of holiday stress. So to get the most out of this holiday season, it’s important to make joy and self-care a priority. That’s why I’d like to share 7 holiday yoga poses to prepare for the season.

I hope these simple holiday yoga poses help you de-stress during this holiday season.

Taking a moment for yourself to move your body, be present, and practice gratitude will go such a long way to making this time of year fun and exciting for you and your loved ones!

Reclining Bound Angle Pose

This is such a great pose that releases tension in the hips and allows you to get connected to the rhythm of your breath. Simply let your hands rise and fall with each breath as you inhale and exhale. This pose can even be done right in bed as you’re waking up for the day, or trying to unwind and regroup after that awesome holiday party.

Savasana

Savasana is THE relaxation pose. It truly encourages the body to come to a still position and just breathe, bringing us naturally to a more peaceful state. Watch the most relaxing Savasana yoga session right here at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AX4HYZLIFw

Child’s Pose

An amazing pose that you can come to at any time for instant calm! Feel your troubles melt away as you rest your forehead on the mat, cushion, or block and just breathe. I find this great to jump into when you’re feeling overwhelmed during the holiday preparations.

Cat Pose

A great way to warm up your spine and to ease any lower back pain. The perfect pose to practice after wrapping presents.

Tree Pose

Vrikasana, or Tree Pose, is an excellent pose for easing stress and anxiety because it requires grounding and concentration. It’s a constructive way to distract yourself while also giving your mind, and body, a challenge.

Forward Fold

Uttanasana, or Forward Fold, is a pose that can help calm your mind and relieve stress and anxiety. We often carry stress and tension in our neck and shoulder area; this pose physically takes the tension off of that sensitive area, while allowing your entire upper body to release and relax.

Star Pose

Traffic! Airport delays! Your darling mother-in-law coming to town! Whatever the cause, your tension levels are probably mounting along with your credit card bills. Try star pose: It’s a restorative posture that not only helps relieve physical strain but also lets you take a mental break as you breathe into the pose. Plus, it’s a good way to release tension in the hips—something many of us have developed from focusing on forward-motion activities like walking and running.
