The Coronavirus has caused many of us to be shut-ins inside our own home, or at the very least lose access to our offsite gym. You want to get fit, but just because you’re at the house doesn’t mean you can’t exercise. In fact, I’d like to share with you 5 tips to stay active at home.
It’s true – you can really get a great workout without leaving the house! And while owning fit balls, dumbbells, and exercise bands are a benefit, I’d like to share 5 tips that do not require exercise equipment and help you to stay active at home.
Tip #1 – Subscribe to a YouTube Fitness Video
Who says you need a personal trainer when you have access to YouTube? In our glorious digital age, you can experience great workouts anywhere. Workout channels, such as HASfit and Yoga with Adriene, provide fitness challenges for a wide range of skill levels.
Tip #2 – Make Housework Exercise Time
Cleaning the house is actually a great way to get moving. Mopping, vacuuming, and general chores all take energy. Check out this handy chart showcasing how many calories you actually burn while doing house chores by clicking here.
Tip #3 – Play Nintendo
Interactive consoles, such as the Nintendo Wii or XBOX 360 Kinect, are designed to increase physical activity in front of the television screen. Most recently, the Nintendo Switch introduced Ring Fit Adventure, a fitness game that requires the use of a high-tech fitness band. This could be the game that you and your kids both take turns playing.
Tip #4 – Go Out for a Walk
Make walking a family activity. Or, grab the leash and walk your dog. Your body – and your pooch – will thank you!
Tip #5 – Tread the Stairs
If you live in a house or apartment with stairs, consider trekking up and down to get in your steps. Plus, it’s a great way to tone your butt, hips, and thighs. If interested in toning up your legs, I encourage you to check out a previous post, 3 Great Leg Exercises You Can Do at Home.
